Eco-designfor a responsible web

Web eco-design and digital sobriety by Phoenix Lotus Valley in Bordeaux

The Phoenix Lab is a place for thinking. It's the creative soil where ideas grow. Born in 2019, it's where many web and software projects are currently incubating, nice and warm.

Our team dedicates up to 30% of its time to research and development. Serious without taking ourselves too seriously, we weigh our responsibility every day. Building a website also means creating new demand for energy resources. We factor that into every technology choice we make. And we keep finding new web solutions to make our sites eco-responsible.

Digital sobriety
in action

This is our first R&D project: the importance of committing to digital sobriety by opening it up to open source. “Everyone should be able to have an eco-designed website.” Shirley Jagle - Founder of Phoenix. Our Neptune Green Tech eco-design production approach, which also covers software.

Eco-design means designing a tool so that it has the smallest possible carbon footprint, while keeping its features relevant.

An eco-designed site is first of all a lighter site, built on essentials. Fewer bytes (the unit of weight on the web) on the server means cheaper hosting: savings on one side. It also means fewer data round trips (requests) between servers, routers, computers, browsers… In the end, it's a faster site. And that's exactly what search engines like Google and Bing love today: eco-design meets one of the prerequisites of good organic SEO.

Driven by the Phoenix teams' desire to have a positive impact through their work, the Neptune Green Tech project began in 2019. The agency's teams experimented to push the limits of eco-design while applying the principles recommended by recognized working groups in the field, such as GreenIT or the Opquast certification.

In an ocean
of software

Kairos Blue is the extranet that brings all your company's communication and knowledge together in one place, so you save time and work more efficiently. To design Kairos Blue, we first asked ourselves what we needed as a company.

E-learning
and gamification

The first climate-engagement gaming platform to train employees in eco-responsible habits.

EngageNow will inform, train and drive climate action through gaming. Technology won't do everything: to have a real impact, behavior needs to change at scale.

Techfor equity

Startup studio
and tech for equity

At Phoenix, we're never short of ideas. We design innovative projects, validate them and turn them into fully-fledged new startups. Working with us in startup studio mode is like having a dedicated partner in crime who helps you launch your business in no time. We work in a collaborative atmosphere that lets your ideas come to life.

We have extraordinary resources at hand: development, design and marketing teams. Everything you need to take your business to the next level!

And if that's not enough, we sometimes even give a financial boost to help you launch your business. We've taken equity in some companies in exchange for our services. It's a tightly framed process so that everyone comes out ahead. That's what we did with the startup Ninjaé, for example.

In short, working with a startup studio is a bit like having your own superhero to help you grow your business and conquer the world. So, what are you waiting for?

UX research
and cognitive psychology

At the root of every new project, every innovation, there are people. Our work is guided by the principles of UX research and cognitive psychology. UX (User eXperience) research and cognitive psychology are two complementary fields that make it possible to create exceptional user experiences.

UX research focuses on understanding users' needs, expectations and behaviors, while cognitive psychology studies the mental processes involved in perception, learning, memory and decision-making.
